***Although it is sometimes necessary to borrow money to finance an education, caution is advised. Generally, a student should not rely primarily on loans and is advised not to borrow more than what is needed to meet expenses. *** Federal Direct Stafford Loans: Low interest loans for undergraduate and graduate students, with maximum loans limits per year as follows:• $3,500 for first year undergraduates • $4,500 for second year undergraduates • $5,500 for students who have completed two years of study to a total of $23,000 as an undergraduate • $8,500 for graduate and professional school students to a total of $65,500 including funds borrowed as an undergraduate If eligible, independent students may borrow additional money through the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan Progam as follows: • First and second year independent undergraduates may borrow up to an additional $6,000 in unsubsidized loans if eligible. • Third and fourth year independent undergraduates may borrow up to an additional $7,000 in unsubsidized loans if eligible. • Graduate and professional students may borrow up to an additional $12,000 in unsubsidized loans if eligible. Repayment begins six months after graduation or when the student drops below half-time attendance. The interest on the subsidized loans is paid while the student is in school. The interest on the unsubsidized loans will start accruing when the loan is disbursed. The amount a student may borrow is limited to financial eligbility. Also, Stafford loans will be subject to a 3% origination fee. Interest rates are variable up to 8.25% maximum. Total indebtedness cannot exceed $31,000 for a dependent undergraduate, $57,500 for a independant, or $138,500 as a graduate or professional student Federal Plus Loan:
Loan disbursements will be delayed for 30 days from the beginning of the term for Freshmen / first-time borrowers (this does not apply to the Parent PLUS loan). Loan funds will remain on the student's account but will not be disbursed until the delay date and will be canceled if the student withdraws or otherwise becomes ineligible before the disbursement date. |
